The Pumphouse has been awarded a Highly Commended honour in the Architecture category at the 2025 National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards.
Coordinated by the National Trust (NSW) and supported by the NSW Government through Heritage NSW, the Heritage Awards are a key feature of the Australian Heritage Festival and celebrate excellence in the conservation, protection, and interpretation of Aboriginal, built, natural and cultural heritage. This national recognition celebrates the bold and thoughtful transformation of one of Albury’s most iconic industrial buildings into a thriving creative hub for artists, makers and the wider community.
Shortlisted alongside some of New South Wales’ most outstanding heritage projects, The Pumphouse was recognised for its careful balance of conservation and innovation, preserving the building’s distinctive 19th-century character while reimagining it as a dynamic, contemporary maker space.
“This recognition affirms our commitment to preserving Albury’s heritage while championing innovation and creativity for future generations,” said Albury Mayor, Kevin Mack.
The Pumphouse Coordinator, Susan Reid, said it was a special moment for those involved in bringing the facility to life. “To see The Pumphouse recognised at this level is incredibly rewarding,” she said. “We’re grateful to all who have contributed to The Pumphouse’s journey and we are excited to continue building a space that inspires and empowers our creative community.”
