Silversmithing for beginners: Hook and stud earrings

Learn foundational silversmithing skills with gold and silversmith Amy Lees-Doherty.

In this workshop you’ll learn silversmithing techniques in order to make hook and stud earrings. By the end of this workshop you’ll:

  • have made two pairs of earrings – one with hooks, and one pair of studs
  • have an understanding of different earring findings and metal requirements
  • have learnt different finishing techniques
  • leave with learning resources to continue your journey into silversmithing

All materials and tuition included.

 

What to bring

  • Apron

  • Participants must wear enclosed shoes, tie hair up and avoid wearing loose-fitting clothing or accessories.

About your Workshop Tutor

Amy Lees-Doherty is a Melbourne-based contemporary gold and silversmith, artist, and craftsperson. Her work explores narrative and identity across a range of mediums, particularly wearable art. Passionate about environmental sustainability, she combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative techniques to create evolving pieces that reflect her commitment to exploration and continuous learning. Amy has undertaken residencies in both Europe and Australia, with her work featured in exhibitions nationally and internationally. Her work can be found in private collections across Australia, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong.
