Location: The Pumphouse Makerspace, East Albury
Practising First Nations artists are invited to explore ceramics, jewellery making and textiles, and develop new product ideas through hands-on workshops at The Pumphouse Makerspace this spring.
The first two-session workshop will introduce artists to handbuilt ceramics, surface decoration techniques and creative product development using clay. The program is part of the Elevate Program, funded by Create NSW and is led by a First Nations Project Manager.
Participants will create original ceramic forms and apply their own designs, illustrations and creative concepts to finished pieces. Artists will be encouraged to experiment, develop new skills and explore how ceramics can complement their existing practice. Participating artists will be supported by a professional ceramic artist.
This program includes a two-month membership to The Pumphouse, giving access to the equipment and studio spaces outside of the workshop times.
A culturally respectful approach
The program respects Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP), supports artist-led decision making and recognises participants as owners of their creative work.
Who should apply?
First Nations artists at any stage of their creative journey who are interested in exploring new materials, learning practical techniques and developing products, artworks or creative ideas.
How to register
To allow plenty of hands-on time and access to the studio facilities, each workshop is limited to 8 artists. If there is more interest than available places, we hope to offer additional workshops. If you miss out on a place this time, we will keep you informed about future workshop dates.
