Matt Fairbridge

Matt Fairbridge is a multifaceted artist and musician, renowned for his innovative sculptures and custom guitar effects pedals, crafted on unceded Dhudhuroa country. He honed his artistic skills at the Victorian College of the Arts, where he discovered the transformative power of creative workshops and makerspaces. These environments, rich with interdisciplinary activity and supportive staff, fostered his passion for art and reinforced the legitimacy of creative practices in a world that often undervalues artistic contributions.

Matt’s enthusiasm for makerspaces stems from their role as vibrant hubs of creativity and learning, akin to the workshops found in art, design, and architecture schools. These spaces provide a nurturing atmosphere where artists can experiment with new techniques and processes without judgment. His involvement in The Pumphouse Think Tank is driven by a desire to create a similar environment in Albury/Wodonga, addressing the need for recognition and support of artists’ work within the community.

Matt believes The Pumphouse’s strengths lie in the networking and collaboration opportunities it offers, further connecting the region’s arts community.
