Doug Aplin

Doug Aplin champions multidisciplinary art and design spaces, drawing on his extensive experience in makerspaces across Sydney and his university background. His passion for these creative environments inspired him to help establish The Pumphouse Think Tank in Albury/Wodonga. Doug envisions a state-of-the-art facility where a strong community of artists and makers can share ideas, forge collaborations, and feel welcome.

Doug’s vision for The Pumphouse is transformative. He imagines a space where local artists and hobbyists interact with established professionals, moving beyond isolated garage studios into a vibrant community setting. Doug believes this interaction will lead to unique local artistic expressions that resonate with the region’s land and culture. He is committed to ensuring that The Pumphouse remains accessible and inclusive, providing opportunities for people from all walks of life to engage with and contribute to the arts.

Doug sees The Pumphouse as more than just a physical space; he views it as a catalyst for cultural and economic growth in the region. By providing access to professional-grade equipment, mentorship, and networking opportunities, The Pumphouse will empower both emerging and established artists to develop their skills and elevate their practices.

Throughout his involvement with The Pumphouse Think Tank, Doug has enjoyed the diversity of the group, learning from the different art and design backgrounds of its members. This collaborative spirit has been key to the project’s success, and Doug looks forward to continuing to work with his fellow Think Tank members to bring The Pumphouse vision to life.
