The Pumphouse is launching an exciting new Artist in Residence program, bringing some of Australia’s most creative artists to Albury. The residency program is designed to give artists the time and space needed to explore new ideas and share their work with the local community through workshops, talks and open studios.
“We’re so excited to welcome these talented artists to The Pumphouse,” said Susan Reid, manager of The Pumphouse. “This residency is about experimentation, connection, and pushing artistic boundaries, and we can’t wait to see the incredible work that emerges from it.”
Meet the Artists
Each of the following artists will be in residence at The Pumphouse for a period of three to four weeks.
Lillardia Briggs-Houston – in residence March 2025
Lillardia is a Wiradjuri, Gangalu, Yorta Yorta artist and fashion designer based in Bungambrawtha /Albury-Wodonga. She creates textiles and garments using traditional Aboriginal practices like carving, dyeing, and weaving.
Her award-winning work has been featured in Vogue Australia and has been acquired by the Powerhouse Museum.
Lillardia will be running workshops in silk printing and dying, and her studio will be open weekly to visitors.
Sam Gold – in residence April 2025
Sam is a South Australian artist working with clay as a representation of a living material in transition. They explore identity and connection through ceramic sculpture and installation. Sam has received multiple awards for their work and has exhibited at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
Sam’s workshops at The Pumphouse will provide a foundation in designing, creating and mounting wall-based ceramic work.
Jayanto Tan – in residence July 2025
Originally from North Sumatra, Indonesia, and now based in Sydney, Jayanto creates ceramics and installations inspired by mythology, personal stories, and his experience as a queer migrant artist.
During his residency, Jayanto will host three tea ceremonies in which participants will share experiences, cook together, and create ceramic sculptures that celebrate connection and storytelling.
Amy Lees-Doherty – in residence October 2025
Amy is a Melbourne-based gold and silversmith who makes intricate wearable art inspired by mythology and folklore. Her works are held in private collections across Australia, the UK, Europe, and Hong Kong, and she also teaches metalwork and contemporary art techniques.
Amy will use her residency to design and create jewellery inspired by The Pumphouse and its surrounds. She’ll be hosting a perception sketching workshop in which participants use different methods to capture the character of a space or building.
Jennifer Conroy-Smith – in residence January 2026
Jennifer is a Naarm/Melbourne-based artist who works mainly with porcelain, pushing the limits of the material to create delicate, large-scale installations that explore light, shadow and movement. Her sculptural installations have been commissioned globally, and she has exhibited in Melbourne, Sydney, London, New York and Paris.
Jennifer will be offering opportunities for visitors to explore and experiment with simple mould making techniques in order to slipcast ceramic forms.

The Pumphouse Artist in Residence is an opportunity for the community to engage with contemporary artists in an open and accessible way. Whether through workshops, talks, or simply seeing an artist at work, this program invites everyone to experience the creative process up close.
